Television has come a long way in the last 80 years since the Scot John Logie Baird pioneered the technology.

There have been some interesting recent advancements in the development of television through the advent of digital TV. Digital television has led to some good technical improvements:

  • A higher quality broadcasting signal resulting in a more consistent picture (i.e. no ghosting effects common with analogue signals)
  • True wide screen images
  • Digital sound

And a better user experience with:

  • A rapid increase in the number of digitally based teleivsion & radio channels
  • The ability of the user to interact with TV services via the "red button" (not currently available with Freeview HDTV)

There is no doubt that these advancements have improved television entertainment in the UK but there has been one major component missing and that is a significant improvement to user viewing experince (i.e. what the user physically sees on the TV screen).

Warning!
Not all HDTV is invented equal.
